Christmas Coach Trip – Last Few Tickets – Friends Welcome

The hottest event of the festive season is rapidly approaching, but there are still a few tickets left.

Fancy a fun filled winter walk in a mystery location in the Peaks?

Chilling out after the walk with a well earned ale? Being transported to The George Hotel, Tideswell for an evening of festivities and merriment?

The Christmas Coach trip is on Saturday 8th December. You can book on most walks or by contacting Rachael Drewery on 07827 785015 or at rachaeldrewery@yahoo.com

Tickets are £29.50 and selling fast.

P.S. Why not book a ticket for a friend? It’s traditional to have a few friends of members joining in the fun. As long as they have appropriate clothing and footwear for the walk they are more than welcome!

Walks Saturday 27 Oct and Sunday 28 Oct: Update

Saturday Matlock Bath 11AM

This walk starts from Matlock BATH station, as per the programme, not Matlock, as the digest post may have inadvertently implied.

Parking available, but may be very busy.

Train from Nottingham: 9.18, Derby 9.50

Bus (Transpeak): Nottingham: 910, Derby 9.50

(If taking the train from Nottingham, please allow extra time to walk to the temporary ticket office.)

Sunday Warslow 10.30AM

Both walks now have replacement leaders. Thanks to Dave and Jane (long walk) and Louis (short walk) for stepping in.

New walks programme needs volunteers

NDWG has always relied on volunteers to lead walks.  Put simply, no volunteer leaders, no walks.  So please look through the new walks programme linked from the front page of the website and volunteer to lead one of the walks needing a leader. You can contact the walks co-ordinator to volunteer.

Ladybower Walks Sunday 30th – Start point and Nottingham Meet Point

Just to confirm, the start point for this walk is the Heatherdene car park off the A6013, north of Bamford, south of the Ladybower Viaduct, SK202859.

Due to the Robin Hood Half Marathon, we will be unable to use the usual  Nottingham meet point this Sunday. Instead, please meet up outside Nottingham Playhouse, by the Sky Mirror, for the usual 9AM departure. We will shuttle surplus cars to free parking as usual. N.B. in view of the likely increased warden presence this Sunday, if leaving your car “out of immediate sight” you may wish to put 50p on a meter for peace of mind. This is a one-off change; arrangements revert to usual from Sunday 7th October onwards.

Further information on this Sunday’s walks will be published on the Digest and the NDWG Facebook page.

New Starter Social – Tuesday 18th September – 8pm

We have a “New Starter” social next Tuesday (18th) at The Castle pub in Nottingham (www.tinyurl. com/thecastlepub). If you haven’t yet managed to get out on a walk or social then this is an ideal opportunity to come and meet members of the group, including members of our Committee, and to find out what we are all about! If you are already a regular, please come along to this rather fine hostelry to meet, welcome and encourage new members. If you have friends who might be interested in getting walking or joining the group, please bring them along, the more the merrier! As always, existing members are more than welcome.

See you there from 8pm!

Important changes to Rutland Water Walk – 23rd Sep

Following a recce we have found that we can’t use the car park at Egleton, which is for birdwatchers going to the visitor centre and strictly enforced. So, the start point for both walks on Sunday 23rd September is now Whitwell car park.
The long walk route is: CP, Hereward Way, Edith Weston, Manton (PH), Egleton, Barnsdale Hall, CP
The short walk route is: CP, Empingham, Horn Mill, Fort Henry, Exton Park, Exton (PH), Whitwell (PH), CP
Distances remain the same for both.
